walk on water

conversation with dominic at lunch -

dominic asks me to tell him a story about Jesus. i start to tell him about Jesus walking on water, and then i'm trying to describe to him what it was and how amazing it was that Jesus walked on water. i tell him, "you know when you go swimming, if you put your feet in the water, what happens? do your feet stay on top of the water? or do they go down into the water?"

"they go down into the water," he says and he gets a bit distracted by the thought of swimming.

"what happens when your feet go into the water?" i ask, thinking he'll say he swims or grabs the ledge, or something else he does when swimming.

"i will die," he says

whoa! i wasn't trying to go there...

oh, that zoe is far too cute

when zoe does this in her highchair, dominic says, "look, mommy! she's riding a motorcycle!"

songs by dominic

lately dominic loves to sing. he makes up songs too which is pretty funny. this morning at lunch he was sitting like this and then he started banging his spoon on the metal part of the chair behind him.

"it's a drum!" he said.

then he starts singing, "Jesus, Jesus."

cute song.

then he sings the second verse, "people, people."

i like this song. Jesus, Jesus. people, people.

conversations with dominic

i have some pretty funny conversations with dominic. here's a funny one from breakfast:

d (totally out of the blue): "what happens to make the factory dead?"

[some back and forth about which factory, because i have no idea what he's talking about.]

finally i say, "where is this factory?"

d: "in germany"

me: "does it make VW cars?"

d: "it makes jaxon's car"

me: "did uncle mike [jaxon's dad] tell you about this factory?"

d: "no, uncle ken told me"

huh??? i don't know what the heck he was thinking.

dominic quote of the day

dominic and i walked to aero park with zoe. on the way, we saw someone mowing their lawn.
dominic says, "hey look what that guy's doing!" i looked up and said, "hm, i think that might be a girl." (thankfully the person did not hear us.)
dominic: "oh yeah. maybe it's a boy?"
me: "um, i'm pretty sure it's a lady."
dominic (shouting): "OH, LIKE LADY GAGA!"

haha! mathias makes one offhand comment about lady gaga and dominic doesn't forget it.

big boy bed

dominic has long since needed a big boy bed.  so off we went to ikea to find one.  i've been checking craigslist but haven't seen anything good.  ikea was a bit crazy, but fun too.  dominic liked the meatballs and like riding on the cart:

zoe tried it out after we set it up and she approved.
dominic thought it was awesome too, i think because we made such a big deal about it.  he kept wanting to pretend sleep in it (he only gets his binky for sleeping, so he would get it to pretend sleep too):

and get other people to pretend sleep in it (other sleepers must have a binky too):

here's how he actually slept in it:

and when i pulled back the covers to put him under them, this is what i found:

i don't think he's ever fallen out.  he sleeps much better in it and is warmer too (he was often cold in his crib because he never keeps covers on).  he mostly sleeps across it, but he's starting to use his pillow more and the covers too.  so far, it's been a huge success and i'm so glad we got him this bed.  oh, i forgot to mention, this bed is a twin that can be three different sizes.  we've got it on the smallest size now.  we weren't planning to get this bed, but when we saw the toddler beds in person, we realized they were too small - way to narrow.  this bed is perfect for him.  and so comfortable!  i absolutely love it.

next trick is to move zoe into the crib in his room...

zoe loves to smile

new camera!

here's my birthday present! so far i love it. it takes great pictures and snaps them quickly which is important to me because i have quick moving kids. it's hard to capture those moments. i also like that it's small, so i can carry it around in my purse. our old camera was having some problems and i never wanted to bring it with me because of it's size.

thanks everyone who gave to this worthy cause!

the backyard

one of our favorite places to play this summer.

here's the view from the hammock:
zoe is still not terribly out-doorsy, but here she was enjoying herself:
dominic's favorite thing to do in the garden:
filling up the pool.
